HOW MUCH CBD SHOULD I BE USING?

Whether you’re a first-timer or an experienced user, understanding how CBD works and how to use it can be somewhat confusing, especially since the industry is so new. Every day, we answer dozens of questions from our customers, but one of the most frequently asked by first-time users and experienced fans alike is: What’s the best CBD dosage?

CBD does not have an official serving size and because of this customers are haphazardly estimating their dosages. We love CBD and all its natural plant powered benefits but it’s also important that you know how, why and when to use it. 

“Take one dropper of CBD per day,” is one of the most common dosage recommendation and while this can definitely be a dosage it doesn’t take into account important factors such as:

  • The concentration of CBD
  • The individual’s body chemistry
  • The severity of the condition being treated

With that being said, there isn’t a “one size fits all” dosage – that’s why we have 3 strengths so you can choose which one to use depending on your specific needs.

Neuroscientist Nick Jikomes over at Leafly, explains that, as our body’s physiology changes, so do the receptors in our Endocannabinoid System (ECS), which are directly responsible for interactions with CBD. As a result, optimal CBD dosages will shift throughout an individual’s lifetime.

How to Choose Your CBD Dosage: Start small and increase gradually

Not only are we all made differently, we each have our own unique history with the use of substances, medications, supplements, and other things we put in our body. Because of this, we all have different body chemistry, and this will affect how our body reacts to CBD. As R.R Noall over at Herb puts it, “what works for your friend, may not work for you.”

We recommend starting with our 100 or 250mg (1 or 2.5%)  Miracle Drops and gauging how your body/mind/skin responds.

How to measure your CBD Miracle Drops dosage

Using a CBD oil like Miracle Drops is one of the easiest ways to consume CBD. Simply fill the dropper, administer the oil under your tongue, then hold it there for 30 to 90 seconds before swallowing. Alternatively you can use half a dropper topically on the face or affected area of skin. The CBD will penetrate to the epidermis and travel into the bloodstream. Topical application is not as ‘strong’ as talking internally but it will help with localised pain and inflammation and approx 30-40% will work its way into the body to fight inflammation internally.

The pipette is the tool we use to administer Miracle Drops, which typically holds 1 ML of liquid. You can use this simple formula to determine how much CBD is in a pipette full:

[Total CBD in Bottle] ÷ [Number of Millilitres in Bottle] = MGs of CBD in a pipette.

For example, let’s say you have a 30ml CBD Miracle Drops that has 250MG of CBD:

250 ÷ 30 = 8.33MG of CBD per dropper

Of course this method isn’t 100% accurate, but it is more accurate than not measuring at all. Remember, start with a small dosage and gradually increase until you find your perfect dosage.

CBD for different conditions

General health, anti-inflammatory use: You could start with just 2-3 drops of CBD oil on your first day of use. This low dose gives your body time to adapt to the CBD and ensures you’re not going to take too much – you don’t want to waste it! Slowly increase your dosage. Before increasing your dose, stick with the same amount of CBD for at least a few days. Separate your dosage into smaller doses throughout the day. This may enhance the absorption rate and efficacy of the CBD oil.

You can integrate CBD into your lifestyle by putting a few drops into a bulletproof coffee, salad dressing or raw brownie recipe.

Anxiety: Research suggests around 30-200mg is the most effective. Personally I find half a dropper of 250mg (2.5%) in the morning and again in the evening is great for general low level persistent anxiety. During stressful periods a few drops under the tongue throughout the day are also super helpful. On the worst days I step up to the 500mg (5%). Remember – you can’t overdose on CBD but definitely start low and go slow so you can find the perfect dosage for you and your lifestyle. I like to keep a mood diary so I can see how my anxiety and is decreasing with my dosage and note other improvements.

Sleep: Our social media coordinator Daniella suffers from intermittent insomnia and has found the following works well - a daily dose of 1/3 a pipette of 100mg (1% ) in the morning followed by 1/3 pipette of 250mg (2.5%) in the late afternoon and a final 3rd of a pipette before bed – 250mg or 500mg (2.5% or 5%) depending on how wired she is.

Topically: CBD has shown amazing results for eczema, psoriasis and acne as well as localised pain and inflammation. Start with a few drops, for super effective results Miracle Drops are best used alone. Can be mixed with favourite face oil or cream too.
