MIRACLE DROPS FAQs
You may have seen the term “CBD” pop up recently in your news feed, possibly because it has just been legalised medicinally in the UK or because of the hype around the emerging scientific research on this ‘miracle molecule’. Here at Disciple we’re huge fans of adaptogens – those potent plant compounds that help the body deal with stress -so obviously CBD was next on our hit list. We’ve been using CBD at Disciple HQ for some time and can’t wait to share our stress-releaving, anti-inflammatory Miracle Drops.
Don’t worry, we understand you may curious or even skeptical and we’re here to ease your angst and fill you in on the need-to-knows.
What is CBD?
Well CBD is an abbreviation for Cannabidiol (Can-na-bee-di-ol) This is a one of most prevalent compounds, otherwise known as a cannabinoid (there are over 100) found in cannabis and hemp. CBD is extracted from the leaves and flowering buds of cannabis plants, specifically the species of cannabis sativa. Historically cannabis strains were bred with high levels of THC (the psychoactive component in weed that gets you high), but now ongoing scientific research is based on the benefits of low-THC strains.
Is CBD the same as marijuana?
In simple terms, no. Cannabis is made up of 100 different cannabinoids. Two of the main ones are CBD and THC. It is important not to get confused between the two, as many people still associate CBD with getting stoned. THC is the psychoactive ingredient which causes the mind altering high associated with recreational cannabis.
Is the CBD oil Legal?
Our CBD is 100% a legal product. It is 1% CBD in Hemp Oil. Hemp Oil is legal to buy and supply throughout the European Union. Legally the cannabis that CBD comes from has to have less than 0.3% THC for it to be considered hemp and not cannabis. However it is not recommended that you travel with CBD. Whilst CBD is legal, cannabis is not; airport staff may not be educated about the difference and may confiscate your products. Also Hemp Oil is not legal everywhere, so better to be safe than sorry!
What does the CBD oil look, taste and smell like?
The CBD oil is a pale yellow oily liquid. It has no added colours, flavourings or fragrance added to it. However it does have a mild natural scent that we here at Disciple we have described as smelling like ‘freshly cut grass’. The flavour of the of the oil is all natural and has a nutty/earthy taste to it.
What are the skincare benefits of the CBD oil?
Scientific research published has demonstrated that CBD has anti-inflammatory and moisturising properties. Cannabinoids are well known to play a role in regulating inflammation. CBD creates a highly effective sebostatic effect ( this essentially means that it is amazing at balancing sebum and skin oils.) Both of which are catalysts for the series of issues that result in skin breakouts and acne. There is research to suggest that hemp seed oil can be used in the treatment of eczema, skin dryness and itching if used topically for long period of time. Hemp molecules are very small and are easily permeated through the epidermis, dermis through to the hypodermis. The CBD from this interacts with TRPV1 receptors (these are a group of ion channels located on the membranes of cells.) These receptors are known to mediate pain, inflammation and body temperature. You can find out more about the benefits of CBD and all the scientific jargon by reading the scientific research papers below.
Does CBD interact with any other medications?
As always, you should consult with your doctor prior to taking any new supplements to ensure there are no conflicts in their effects on your system. Unfortunately, we are not in a position to be able to offer medical advice on drug interactions with CBD oil. We advise that you speak with your GP about this.
How can I use the Disciple Miracle Drops?
We recommend half a dropper twice a day. It can be taken orally, taking the drops under the tongue.
For direct use on your skin it can be used topically as part of your normal skin care routine. Just a few drops on your skin and massage in. You can also combine it with our face oils or your fave face cream.
Other things we like to do is add it to our coffee and matcha lattes. Also drizzling it over salads and soups. CBD oil can be used any time of the day, but we recommend half a dropper in the AM and another in the PM.
